Mountaintop Moments

Life is about making decisions. Decisions that set you on a path for your future. Decisions that will make or break you. Decisions that change your life forever. Twenty-two years ago I was faced with making one of the toughest decisions in my life. I was given the opportunity to move from Virginia to either Los Angeles or New York City to pursue a TV hosting and acting career. While I do not regret my decision to head to the west coast - Los Angeles, I always wondered what would have or could have happened if I landed in the big apple – New York City.

This past month, I received my Big Apple second chance!!! With the launch of my new book Second Chances, I flew up to New York City for a media tour. While I was there, I was able to work in a big, chic New York City office, walk the crowded streets, look up at the skyscrapers surrounding me, stand in awe of the billboards and marquees that overshadow Time Square, and smell the hotdogs and pretzels on the street corner. I truly had the chance to embrace the hustle and bustle of this amazing city for 4 full days!!

During my trip, I was blessed to visit some of the top national media outlets and meet with multiple editors to promote my new book. It stated off with an appearance on Good Morning America, which has always been a dream of mine. I had a one-on-one live interview with my dear friend Robin Roberts. We then headed to Good Day NY, Essence Magazine, Ebony Magazine, BET.com and TBN where I was able to share hope and the inspiration for Second Chances and my journey behind the book. I loved every minute of it!!!

In life, we often wonder … if I had done this or if I had done that…. how would my life be different?  And sometimes, we even have regrets. In my case, I have never regretted the decision to move to LA, but often there have been times I have wondered if I could have more career success in New York.

I would have never thought that twenty-two years later, I would be given the opportunity to head to New York for an even greater purpose. Sometimes, our dreams don’t manifest the way we think they are supposed to look. God gave me the opportunity (or Second Chance) to experience New York City in an even greater and more purposeful way than I could have imagined.

So as Forrest Gump would say, “Life is like a box of chocolates (one of my favorites ☺). You never know what you’re going to get.” And I’ve learned that what you get when it comes from God … is always pretty yummy and spectacular!!!
